Moon drawings
Moon Drawings, 2012 ongoing
graphite on black paper, 20 x 15 cm
Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona, USA

Every night, outside in the dark, during a month-long artist residency at Kitt Peak in southern Arizona, I would draw the phases of the moon in graphite on black paper allowing only eye/hand co-ordination, as I was unable to see. The images shown here represent almost a quarter of the series made between 28 April and 27 May 2012. As with the other drawings in the dark, the primacy of touch is at the centre of this work.
