After Archimedes, 2015
3-D drawing, graphite on paper
30 x 30 x 5 cm (Perspex box 34 x 34 x 7 cm)
The Tetley Art Centre, Leeds (2015)

The beauty and simplicity of a wooden wedge sent to me by curator Sophie Loss inspired this work; along with a similar small wedge I’d seen the day before under the door in John Latham’s Flat Time House. Time triggered my thoughts back to Archimedes’ wedges and forward to the 20th-century geometric abstraction of Lygia Clark’s sculptural Cocoons, both underpinning the three-dimensional work.
